Chelsea’s First Goal Should Have Been Disallowed – Wenger

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, has claimed that Chelsea’s opening goal in their 3-1 win on Saturday, should not have stood.

Marcos Alonso leapt over Gunners defender Hector Bellerin to head the Blues into a first-half lead.

Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas added more goals in the second half, before Olivier Giroud scored a consolation goal late in the game.

However, Alonso’s challenge on Bellerin has become a controversial topic among fans and pundits after the game, as the Chelsea man appeared to elbow his country man in the face.

Bellerin was taken off with concussion and Wenger insists the goal should have been chalked off.

“It was a foul. If you look at a number of games recently we can feel sorry,” Wenger, who watched the game from the stands, told Sky Sports after match.

“It was 100% a foul, it was even dangerous play. That doesn’t take anything away from the performance of Chelsea.

“We had a strong start but didn’t take the opportunites and after half time the second goal was the killer for us.

“We were really naive and not clinical in our defending. Then Chelsea looked the better side. We took risks and they were well organised and played well on the counter attack and looked powerful.

“We lost ball the many times. In situations we lacked maturity and experience. Individually some of our players were not at their best today”, he added.
